Dedicating Our Children

And when the eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, His name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angle before He was conceived in the womb. And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished they brought Him to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord: As it is written in the law of the Lord, every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord; and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, a pair of two turtle doves or two young pigeons. (Luke 2: 21-24)
It is obvious in this passage that Jesus was brought to be dedicated to God the Father. It is also see that there was law involved, covenant, and sacrifice. We know that we are not under the Law of Moses but rather the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus. We must see though that the things written before were written for example and for our learning. (I Cor. 10: 6&11)
What do we learn then? We learn first of all that our children are to be dedicated to God. We cannot take it for granted that God will cover and bless our children just because we are Christians. Do you realize how many people have grown up professing to be and thinking they were a Christian because their parents or grandparents were? You must be born again! That applies to our children too!
Dedication, however, does bring them under the covering of the covenant and the process of getting them born again is much easier as a result.
What is better than dedication after birth is dedication before conception. Don’t expect that all is perfect and ordered of God unless you have given it to Him. God does not usurp authority over any part of our lives. He wants us to release and give to Him that part so His will can be done. It won’t be unless we do. God is looking for a Godly seed to bless and show Himself mighty in.
For us to keep our marriage pure before Him is such an honor but it is also a responsibility not only to God but also to the children born of us. (Malachi 2: 11-17) If you have never done this I encourage to kneel right now and dedicate your seed, give Him the egg, the generations past and more importantly the future generations that He may choose exactly what He wants from each of you to produce a Godly line of Holy seed that will minister the blessing to their future.
After conception begin to pray over the child in the womb. Often we will talk to our babies and sing to them while they are in the womb. We have seen that our children know who we are at birth because of this.
After conception, as we begin to pray over the child, we ask God for the name of the child. Names have meaning and will have a great deal to do with the character, nature, and ministry of the child.   We always ask our Father to give us a scripture that speaks to this new person. Then we seek for a prophetic word, so that our children may grow up with purpose and understanding, at least in part of what God’s will for their life is. They began to prepare even at young ages while we speak the word over them. It is absolutely amazing to see God’s Word come to pass in their lives.
At birth we present the child before the Lord, giving the baby to Him. We speak the prophetic word, read the scripture and speak the name and its meaning. Then by anointing with oil we bring that child into the covenant position for all God wants to do with them.
Some of you may not be in a position to do as I have instructed here because of things of the past. Maybe your children are already born, or they were born before you got born again. Maybe they are already grown with children of their own. No matter where you are in life it is never too late to get things lined up with God’s way of doing things.
You can dedicate them just as I have shown, no matter what. They may not submit to it now, though they will later if you will go ahead and do it.
If your child is away from home then you and your wife come together. One of you anoint the other and one of you call the name of the child you wish to dedicate speaking everything you would to the actual person. If you are led of the Holy Spirit, you can give them a surname if the name you gave them at birth means something other than God’s Word for them. We find sur-naming in the New Testament.
We rehearse each of our children’s dedication every birthday, as well as reminders all through the year. I will send you a sample of one of our children’s dedication to use as a guideline if you wish. If you need help, feel free to call on us.
We find that sometimes it seems difficult to receive a word from God or a name for a child. Don’t allow yourself to become impatient in these cases. God’s Word will come if we continue long enough seeking Him. I don’t always know why the delays but I do know that He always answers. There have been times that we have waited a month or more for the word and name for our children but we have never been sorry for it has always been the right one.
We do realize that births in hospitals may require that a name be given before leaving for home. However in most cases the law does not require this it is only a formality of that institution and can be done differently according to the law.
When it is the law and you must name the child at birth it is possible to have God’s name available if you have been actively seeking for it during the pregnancy.   If this is not the case or the name has not come, there again is the avenue of surnaming that we have discussed before. Jesus gave surnames and so did the apostles after him. The legal name may be one thing but God’s name another. In some cases they can be used jointly to relate and represent God’s purpose for that person.
This avenue of surnaming is a great thing when there are adoptions or orphans involved. You may find that you fit into this category and perhaps you don’t even know the natural parents of your child.   Many children are being adopted from other countries and are being moved to a totally different family and environment. Many of these children carry birth names from their native countries that are not beneficial for their purpose as a Christian and their service in God’s kingdom. Some even carry names of the God’s of the land they came from. It is not uncommon. We find this in Daniel’s life when the king of Babylon gave him a name after his god.
So these things can be cancelled out and changed by the use of surnames and in the case of legal adoptions names can altogether be changed legally to show the new name God has given. Even if you as an adult have carried a name that is detrimental to your well being and purpose in God’s kingdom it can be changed legally or by the use of surnames.
We should also remember that orphans or anyone who is of an unknown background can have generational curses that must be broken. These things of past generations will carry on until they are stopped by the spiritual authority over that child or person. Even the medical profession now knows the truth of these things by the sickness and health problems that show up in families. As well we find this in every aspect of life if not broken by the power of God’s word, the blood of Jesus, and the anointing of the Holy Ghost.
So be sure to speak to all those things of the past and then begin to speak what god says about the future. Names are so important and understanding the purposes and plans for our children.
