Faith

Faith
By Ralph and Pamela Hale

"Now the just shall live by faith" (Hebrews 10:38).
Faith is probably my favorite subject to study and live. The Scriptures speak of faith from beginning to end.
However, it is not everyone that lives that lives by faith. It is the just that are required to live by faith. The just are those of us who have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and received Him as our Savior.
The scriptures tell us that a measure of faith is dealt to every man. (Romans 12:3, 6). God gives everybody this measure of faith so that everybody has an opportunity to be saved upon hearing the gospel. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17). The same chapter says that people cannot hear unless someone preaches the gospel and the persons preaching must be sent. Therefore, we see that salvation is God's idea. We who preach and we who believe must give God all the glory because He designed the plan and gave all the instruments to carry it out, even the faith for us to believe.
Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of our faith (Heb. 12:2). It is what we should constantly be looking to Him for we must walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7). The apostle Paul said that he had been crucified with Christ. Yet he lives but the but the life that he now lives in the flesh, he lives by the faith of the son of God who gave himself for Him. (Gal. 2:20).
When Jesus was here in the flesh He often spoke of faith and what it will do for us. In Mark 4:40, He asked His disciples "how is it that you have no faith?" He could say this because that had heart the Word of God all their lives and also the words of Jesus. They should have allowed the measure of faith to be activated. The same is true of so many people today. Then Jesus spoke of having little faith in Matthew 6:30. Unfortunately this is where most professing Christians are.  However when we look at scripture, we find that one can move mountains with just a little faith is used. (Matt. 17:20). The problem is that most people think that they have no faith or not enough and then just don't use any or use it toward something or someone other than God.
We are warned by scripture that in the latter times (now) many will depart from the faith giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. (1 Tim. 4:1-5). Then also, Jude admonishes to earnestly contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints (v. 3).
We as Christians have a great privilege and responsibility to not only stay faithful in faith, but also to contend for the faith that we have been given.
Jesus said for us to have faith in God. Scripture says that whatever is not if faith is sin. (Rom. 14:23). So to have faith, walk in faith, and to overcome by faith is the will of God for us and if we aren't, we are in sin. Somebody said Oh!
Without faith it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6). Jesus said He did all things always that pleased the father. If faith pleases God and Jesus pleased the father, then He was living by faith which we also are required to do.
Shouldn't we desire faith that pleases God rather than trying to see how little we can get by with? Think about it!
