Going With the Flow

     Going With the Flow

Jesus is the master! He is the head of the church and His words are to be taken in, obeyed and lived by.
When Jesus said a thirsty person ought to come to Him and drink, He meant it. He is the only source of living water. (John 7:37-39)
There are other waters. However, they are not living water. Jesus told us of a broad way where many go that leads to destruction. (Matt 7:13-14) This river of death is long and deep. It will carry you along with what seems to be fun and excitement. There appears to be no end to its pleasure.
But just as suddenly as the lightning flashes this deceiver will call you out upon the shore all used up, battered, broken, addicted and dying. Going with the flow of death will only produce death.
However there is one whose eyes are on the shore line. One whose footprints are in the sand. He hears the whimper from your broken heart saying "oh God, help me." In an instant He will respond with strength and peace, salvation that will begin to carry you in a new direction, a new river, the river of life!
Coming to Jesus to drink is not the most popular way, but it is the only way to live and have life flowing in your life and from your life.
In order for there to be an overflow of life, there must first be an inflow of life. Just as when one drinks of the river of death, death goes in, death comes out. When drinking of the river of life, life goes in, and life goes out.
Everywhere people believed on Jesus Christ they prayed to receive the Holy Ghost. This is just what Jesus did and the apostles after Him. There is a reason for this. It's so there can be an outflow of life and power. But, just as we have to refill the tank on the car, we also must have re-fillings of the Holy Ghost. This comes with prayer, use and obedience. Christians are supposed to walk in the Spirit, be led by the spirit and produce spiritual fruit. It's impossible to do either of these if there is no flow of the Holy Spirit going in to us.
It is impossible to have a constant inflow of the Holy Spirit without being a student of God's word. Jesus said the search the scriptures because that's what speaks of Him. (John 5:39). He said our believing and receiving must be as the scripture has said. (John 7:37-39). If we continue in His word we will know the truth and the truth will set us free. (John 8:31-32).
Staying in the word of God, the Bible, will build faith in us. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17). We cannot walk with God unless we agree with God, and we cannot agree with God unless we know what God has to say which is found in the word (Amos 3:3).
There must be an inflow of spiritual fellowship. This is one of the reasons we are instructed to always assemble ourselves together with other believers. (Hebrews 10:22-25). We draw strength and encouragement from one another. We also gain prayer and wisdom from other mature saints. There is power in unity but the river of death doesn't want you to know and have these things. That's why isolation is one of the most popular things the devil uses. Keeping you away from people of life and keeping you with people of death, in hopes that you won't see your condition and your need for Jesus to carry you to safety; to heal, restore, and save you, so you can begin to be a flow of life to others around you.
The devil is afraid of what you can do once you get free from his flow of death. So how about going with the flow of life. It's your choice!
