None of us who are in this world or have been, or will be were born with a desire for God. We were not born spiritual. I know that many parents and grandparents look at their little babies and call them angles, but they are not and never will be.
We are all born of flesh and are naturally natural. We are all born with a nature of sin. We don’t become sinners because we sin; we sin because we are born sinners.
Jesus said, “What is born of flesh is flesh, what is born of spirit is spirit. “ (John 3:6) he also explained that we must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God. (3:3) We must be born of spirit! For that, that is flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
We are shown in I Cor. 15:42-50 that flesh comes first and then spirit. As Jesus said, first comes the flesh person and then comes the spirit person. When born again, the old is past away and all things are new. (II Cor. 5:17)
So then after that we are born again we are no longer a flesh person but a spirit recreated in god’s image.
Now we are instructed to walk in the spirit if we live in the spirit. (Gal. 5:25) This means, to live like the spirit being that we are instead of the natural flesh person we used to be. What people have grown accustomed to doing is to somehow envision God as being like us instead of seeing us become like God. We naturally naturalize the spiritual instead of spiritualizing the natural.
Scripture says if we are led by the spirit we are the children of God. (Rom. 8:14) It also says that if we have the spirit of Christ, born again, then we are to mortify the deeds of the flesh by the power of that Spirit in us. (Rom. 8:13) The initial outward evidence that we are baptized in the Holy Ghost is speaking in other tongues, but the proof of a spirit filled, spirit led life is one that is lived out with power in true holiness.
The Bible tells us that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (Eph. 2:6) we are also blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ (Eph. 1:3)
Because we are blessed spiritually our natural lives will be blessed also. We prosper only as our soul prospers. (III John 2) It does not declare our spiritual well being because we have substance in this world. But our spiritual health will provide for us all that we ever need in this present life. Our God shall supply all our need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19) It is our God that supplies, not we ourselves. His supply is according to His riches, not the world’s goods, and it is all through and by Christ Jesus and our spiritual connection with him.
Now, we do not come by these things simply because we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior. They must come to us by the Holy Spirit of God that searches out all the deep things of God and then gives them to us. (I Cor. 2:10) But, we must walk in agreement with Him, asking, knocking, and seeking. (Amos 3:3, Matt. 7:7-8)
The Holy Spirit reveals the things of God to us so we can start living it. We will be able to discern spiritually and see that the spiritual world is the real world that last forever. We will begin to speak spiritually, worship spiritually and love in Spirit with the same love God has for us.
As we have borne the image of the earthy, like Adam who sinned, we are to bear the image of the heavenly, the second Adam, Jesus, who knew no sin. It is suppose to become natural to be spiritual because it’s what we are in Jesus Christ.
How about it? Let’s start today!
