Deeper into my Heart
When we look at Scripture we find such marvelous displays of God’s wisdom, understanding and knowledge. One of these is found in Psalm 139.
As I read this Psalm that was no doubt written by King David. I see the relationship David had with God. David understood that God knew him. He knew that God saw him and knew him in His mother’s womb. God knew everything there was to know about David before He was formed but watched as each part was fashioned.
The Palmist states that God had searched him and known him even to knowing his thoughts before he thought them.
He has an understanding that God has a plan for his life that is great and precious. Not only that, but also that God is everywhere and will be with him. Because God has his hand upon David then he will be present to help see His plan fulfilled.
By this understanding, David could also see the fate of the wicked and righteous. He proclaims that such knowledge is too high for him and there is no way he can attain to such a place as to know or understand how God could do all this, yet he knows that he can. Oh, the greatness of God’s ability!
In all of this great discourse of God’s knowledge and ability David ends with this amazing cry: “Search me oh God and know my heart, try me and know my thoughts. See if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Can you imagine what David must have been thinking and feeling at the time he said this? After all he said about God’s knowledge of him and now he cries, Oh God, go deeper into my heart! What a cry! One that we all so desperately need to make today!
I know that every born again believer would say today, my heart is right with God. To that I say praise God! But, have we opened up every chamber for God’s view, inspection and occupation? Do we have secret faults and presumptuous sins that we just try to keep hidden, even some pet sins we don’t want to let go of?
Deep calling to Deep, a cry for God to change every part of us into His plan and image. A cry that will get rid of the deceitfulness of sin and harden hearts. A cry that will allow the living word of God to discern the thoughts and intents of our hearts. Heb. 4:12-13 A cry that will take us so deep in Christ that nothing will be left unturned or unchanged. A cry so life changing that the real, entire treasure of our hearts will be Christ and Christ alone. So full of the treasure of Jesus Christ filling our hearts with Himself that our mouths will overflow with the abundance of the riches of this treasure in earthen vessels.
We could say out of my moth flows praise and worship because Jesus is the treasure of my heart!
My life is one of holiness because Jesus is the fullness of my heart and life!
Are you crying yet? I am!
