Two Major Foes Defeated

Two Major Foes Defeated
In the more than twenty years of ministry I have seen this one thing that continues to amaze me. It is that most professing Christians do not live in the freedom that Christ has purchased for them and most don’t know how to get there. I also find that more often than not, that God’s people are more ready to believe a doctrine of lies that explains away their freedom and convinces them that it’s the will of God for them to be bound up than they are to believe what God says about it.
I find that many are more ready to confess the power of their bondage and the longevity of their captivity than to confess their freedom simply because God says so. Still there are others that had rather be addicted to some drug for temporary relief that to be filled with deliverance and have no need of temporary fixes.
In this word I want us to look at two foes that are really the same and come from the same origin. Yet these have been able to hold far too many prisoners and I know that it is time to expose their devices and open the prison doors, loosing you and destroying the yoke of bondage so you can go free and stay free.
Let’s began at Proverbs 12:25. Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
When we see this word “heaviness” we think of being weighed down, sorrow, sad, etc. It does mean those things but it can also mean to be anxious or afraid. This same word in the Hebrew can be used to mean depression or anxiety. Isn’t it interesting that the same word can mean either or both and these are the two main enemies of our fullness of joy and peace in Jesus.
Look at what this heaviness does. It makes the person “stoop”, bow down, and become weak, submissive, hopeless and helpless in bondage to its control. “By sorrow of heart is the spirit broken.” (Proverbs 15:13) A broken spirit drieth the bones. (Proverbs 17:22) Do you see that? This thing of anxiety (which is really fear) and depression will break the spirit and dry the bones. In other words it will weigh on a person until it gets control and then press in so as to take all the life and hope and eventually stops every ounce of the operation of faith so as to kill if possible, but at least to get people to accept this as the way of life (if it can be called that) for them and thereby never fulfill their God given assignment and reach their destiny with joy. Depression is absence of hope or courage. Anxiety is a dressed up name for fear. Fear is the opposite of faith therefore living in fear would put one in a position of not being able to please God. For without faith it is impossible to please Him. (Hebrews 11:6) Whatsoever is not of faith is sin. (Romans 14:23)
Therefore to live in fear and/ or depression would be to live in sin. But it doesn’t have to be that way, there is freedom available, there is hope and Jesus has freely given it to us! Hallelujah!

We can see that fear and anxiety tried to stop the prophet Elijah. You will remember that Elijah had stood against the wickedness of Ahab and Jezebel by declaring there would be no rain until he said so and so it was. Then he challenged all of the devil’s prophets on Mount Carmel. Their God couldn’t do anything but our God answered by fire. Elijah slew all the devil’s prophets, prayed for rain then when rain came Elijah ran before Ahab’s chariot to the entrance of Jezreel where Ahab and Jezebel lived. Ahab told Jezebel all the Elijah had done and how he had slain her prophets. We see in Kings 19 that something amazing happens to this mighty prophet of God. In verse 2 Jezebel launches a horde of demonic spirits on Elijah through witchcraft as she threatens to take his life. “And when he saw that…,” (v. 3)
Now we must stop and take note here that we react to what we see and here. Either naturally or spiritually we react unless we are anchored in Jesus and have become wiser than serpents. Either by the spirit or going through his head Elijah could see the evil spirits and what they planned to do to him. When the spirits of darkness are assaulting us we will almost always see and/ or hear the threats made against us. It may be so vivid you can actually see it being carries out or see it happening to you to the point of living in the event as if it were real. It can even seem more real than where you are! Beloved these are the witchcrafts of satan and he has someone somewhere launching them at us. Once these have gotten an inroad and have been accepted and established it is known as a stronghold and it is no longer necessary to send hordes of evil spirits against someone. There is only a need to feed what is already established, thereby keeping it in power and fortifying the territory.
For example if you have things in your home that are dedicated to or are demonically attached these can and probably will invite demonic residence and activity into your home and life. (Deut. 7: 23-26, I Cor 6:9-12, II Cor. 6:14-18, Eph. 4:27)
Now look at the first thing these witchcrafts do. They produce fear. “He arose and went for his life.” (v.3) Fear makes people afraid and causes them to begin to run even when there is nothing to run from or to. There is almost always an abounding rush of energy when fear is in control. Run for your life! You will feel a need to go and do as to make it all go away. The pressure will be there to drink some alcohol, take some pills, smoke a joint, run to make it all stop and go away. Beloved it won’t go away. Even if it subsides, it will return until you come to the answer and the end of torment that will only be found in Christ Jesus.

Many people find themselves on a roller coaster, up and down struggling with fear and depression. The pressure is there to run till you drop and seek to die so all will be over. Some do not experience the fear and others do not experience the depression but they go hand in hand and they come from the same black pot witches brew, from the pit of hell.
What the enemy, the devil would really like is to get people to commit suicide. The devils themselves cannot kill you so they must try and get people in a situation that will cause one to be killed or take one’s own life. This strong urging to take ones own life is always launched at the lowest point of despair and despondency. Because the experiences and voices keep strongly convincing that there is no hope, courage to try again is hard to find and death begins to look better than life. That is a lie of the devil! Let’s go back and look at the prophet Elijah.
In the lowest point of depression God sent a messenger to Elijah, just as He is sending one to you now. Even in His suicidal frame of mind he began to listen to God’s messenger. Even though not get up and stay up all at once, he listened and obeyed. (I Kings 19: 5-8)
As Elijah began to receive God’s instruction, he gained strength. Was his mind relieved at once/ No! Look at verses 10 and 14. He was still focused on the destruction and threats when God talks with him. There is not a word about the rain, His answer of fire on Mount Carmel, God’s miracles and provision during over three years of drought, His power and strength to slay the prophets of Baal. No, you see the devils witchcrafts will cloud the mind so as to make it hard to remember and think of God and His works as they really are, for if you do, you will come out of his cloud into the cloud of God’s glory and victory. The devils strategy is to keep you focused on defeat, destruction, death, and the impossibilities so as to make you forget that with God there are no impossibilities! All things are possible with God! All things are possible to them that believe!
Now you are saying I have hope, how do I get free and stay free? There must first be an understanding that every one does not come to freedom exactly the same way, but all must come by exactly the same deliverer, Jesus Christ. There are mighty deliverance services where prayer is made and God mightily delivers, heals, fills and manifests His glory in and for people who are bound up by satan’s lies. We have had many of these and will have many more. If you can, get to one or more of these kinds of services or get to people who know how to help you, please do so. We have had this in our living room, basement etc. at all kinds of different times when people needed and wanted help.
Now don’t compare the way God has dealt with you with the way He has dealt with others, this to can keep you back from the full work of the Holy Spirit. Simply accept your deliverance and walk away free in Jesus Christ!
When Elijah heard God’s voice he listened. In listening His eyes were opened, he heard and saw truth. He came out of the load and heavy cloud of devils to finish to finish his work in the anointing of God and later leave here in a whirlwind of glory! And you will do the same! Hallelujah!
Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop, but a good word makes it glad! A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance. Proverbs 15:13)! Do you hear that? God’s Word for you is a good Word that will make your heart glad and make a cheerful countenance. You’re not only going to be well and be whole inwardly, you will show it outwardly!
God says if you will follow His Word it will be life to you! It will be marrow to your bones and health to your flesh! (Proverbs 3: 5-8, Proverbs 4: 20-22) “I rejoice at thy Word as one that findeth great spoil.” (Psalm 119: 162)
“Thy Words were found and I did eat them; and Thy Word was unto me the joy and the rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts. (Jer. 15:16) God has given you a spirit of praise to replace the spirit of heaviness. (Is. 61:3)
All of this says there is great joy, peace, happiness, health and victory given you in Jesus Christ! Your enemy doesn’t want you to know this because when you do and start to live this way by God’s Word you will begin to praise and take on supernatural power! Then you can do what Psalm 149 says and the devil doesn’t want you to know that.
The joy of the lord is your strength! (Neh. 8:10) Don’t you want to live this way instead of running in fear and/ or falling into depression? Let’s pray! Say this out loud and very loud!

In the name of Jesus Christ I have not been given the spirit of fear but I have the spirit of adoption, the spirit of power, love and a sound mind. I do not live in depression and sorrow. Joy and gladness are my gifts from God and I am determined to live in them in Jesus. Right now, in the name of Jesus I cast down imaginations, I pull down strongholds and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and I bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. The Holy Spirit transforms me by renewing my mind as He teaches me God’s Word.
I speak to all principalities and powers, rulers of darkness in this world and spiritual wickedness in high places, I speak to all spirits of fear, lies, deception, all spells, witchcrafts, sorceries, incantations and every other word of death and darkness—binding, breaking your power, destroying your works and driving you far from me, for no weapon formed against me shall prosper. I take the authority given me by Jesus Christ who has all power in heaven and earth and who has given me all power over all the power of my enemies so that nothing shall by any means hurt me. Therefore I declare my freedom from all darkness, all leagues made with darkness in the past and all tolerance of darkness. Right now I receive deliverance, freedom, health, joy, peace and every other good thing my Father God had so freely given me in my Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
Now you declare this on a regular basis, maybe every day and sometimes several times a day for a while. Get into God’s Word and believe what He says about His covenant promises.
Get some tapes, study, pray and you’ll walk in the spirit where there is liberty! Amen!
