The Church of the Living God

The Church of the Living God

Jesus said the He would build His church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

In I Timothy 3:14-16 we find the apostle Paul writing to Timothy and telling him that the house of God is the church of the living God and is also the pillar and ground of the truth.

The church is made up of many different parts. Each one of us who are truly born again have become a part of the church of Jesus Christ. You see, the church Jesus has and is building is not a man made structure that people go to. It is rather, a God made temple that Christ comes in to when we repent and ask Him too.

The Church is established as the body of Christ and He is the head. ( EPH. 1: 19-23) As the Church, we are to know and understand how we are to behave ourselves both in church and in the world.  In church, some folks think it a sin to get excited, raise hands, shout, dance unto the Lord and rejoice. There are others who cannot distinguish between Godly praise and worship and what comes from the world. The Bible is our guide. When we find it in the Bible, it is good and acceptable with God.  it is when we start bringing things in from the world that we bring trouble in.  That which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. ( Luke 16:15)

The Holy Spirit is given us to teach, reveal and guide us in the things of truth that please God. He does not and has never needed to borrow things from the world. he is the original and the best.

We the church, are to set the standard for the world to see. The light shining in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation. (Phil. 2:14-16) When we, the church, behave ourselves incorrectly we influence the world the wrong way. The world probably knows more about our troubles than they do our love.  The love we have for one another and them is suppose to be the way they know we are Christians. (John 13:34-35)

When Jesus Christ preached it sometimes will cause controversy, however, it is not supposed to among us as believers. We are to be the pillar and ground of the truth. The church is the only institution in the world that possesses the whole truth. It is the preservation of this truth that is our function while we are here. It is the truth that makes people free. (John 8:31-32) When we focus our attention on the differences between one group of believers and another, we are not bringing truth to people. We are bringing a distraction that will hinder people from coming to Christ. Doctrinal issues and practices do not define the church, they are merely different grains of truth that must be put together to make a whole. No one group operates in all the truth and some groups that are called Christian are not at all, but are cults. These spots in our feasts of charity have no doubt brought confusion to a lot of people. The Bible warned about these. (Jude 10-16)

We as believers are not perfect, we are still learning and growing.  However, we must understand that we have an obligation to God and the world. Some serious prayer on our part will help us to follow the path of truth and hold that truth up for others to see.

Scripture warns us that people will in the last days, turn from the truth and listen to fables instead. (II Timothy 4:1-4) Our responsibility is great!

Though we are not prefect yet, we are the church. Jesus is coming back for His church that He has purchased, established and is still working on. Scripture tells us that this church will be without spot, wrinkle or blemish when He comes for it. Hallelujah! For when he comes, this church that may look unfit now, will become His Bride! It will be just like Jesus!

Are you part of the church of the Living God?
