A House Divided

When Jesus was accused of casting out devils through Beelzebub, He made the statement: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.” (Matthew 12:25)
In the town where we live we have a slogan that says, “A community of unity.” This slogan has been adopted and proven over the years by the various challenges to the city and its people. On every occasion the people here have come together for the common good of all. I know, without taking a survey that all of the people that helped other people did not agree on every point of religion, politics, education and living in general. But everyone agreed to not et their differences keep them from doing what was needed and right for the occasion at hand.
Division is a very big enemy that has kept people from being committed to doing what’s right. This enemy has crept into home, church, politics and practically every other facet of life. We find the divorce rate climbing and people with an attitude of divorce before they ever marry. No marriage is perfect in its beginning and it will not be perfect in its ending even if it last a lifetime like it’s supposed to.
Learning to commit and stay agreed on this: that we married for better or worse, richer or poorer, sickness and in health till death do us part. These words use to mean something! The more a couple stays committed, the more they find they’ll agree on.
This same thing applies in church. Every body ought to be in church, committed to Christ and to His church! It is our responsibility as individuals to pray and find out where God wants’ us in church. We should never attend somewhere just because our grandparents helped start the church or our parents have been there all their life or some other reason that may sound good. Our attendance and commitment should be based upon what god says and nothing more or less.
When we are in the place where god says we should be, we should stay and commit to the pastor and the will of God for us in that congregation. If we are in the right place God will feed us and plant us, we will grow and have our place to serve, worship and our lives will fulfill the will of God.
If all we can do is find things to complain about, we’re not growing, not serving, not being fed, something is wrong. We’re either not in the right place or our attitude is wrong, or maybe our heart is not in it, or perhaps the enemy of division has crept in. Desolation is a terrible thing. Families that were once wholesome and thriving have been brought to nothing by this enemy. Children have been scattered and torn and bitterness and hatred arise. The wounds are deep and sometimes last a lifetime. Churches have split, pastors driven to the desert, generations of people driven away from Christ rather than brought to Him.
May I say that there is healing and deliverance in Jesus Christ! Perhaps, that you have been hurt by this enemy of division. Either in your family, church or some other way. I offer you hope, understanding, restoration, reconciliation and much more in Jesus Christ! He is the unifier! Where once division tore apart, Jesus will make whole!
