Be Not Dismayed

Be Not Dismayed

Many of us have experienced lately that we are really in battle with enemy forces. Some are battling one thing, some another. Perhaps some are rejoicing in the victory that god has wrought for them during battle. I believe God is telling His people to not be dismayed by the battle that you are facing or are in. God has sent His Son, Jesus Christ to redeem us and we are redeemed! Jesus has won the war, but there are many battles left to fight. One of the battles is to keep the possession that has been given us through Jesus Christ.

Comes Like A Flood
II Chronicles 20: 10-19

First we find the enemy coming to cast the people of God out of there possession; what God had given them. Now we need to note here that we are supposed to cast out the enemies of God, they are not supposed to cast us out! The enemy still tries to come in and take our possession. He threatens us with almost everything. When he says you’re broke and you are not going to make it, he is threatening to take your possession of provision. (Phil. 4: 19) When the enemy says you’re getting sick, you are not going to be healed, you are going to die, and he is trying to take your possession of healing and health. (Isaiah 53:5–Matthew 8:17)When the enemy comes with all manner of doubt and fear, he is threatening to take your possession of peace that has been given us by Jesus Christ. (John 14:27) The devil can only threaten us though, he has no power to come and take by force anymore! Jesus destroyed the works of the devil and his authority! (Hebrews 2:14) The devil goal is to deceive us, and then for us to give up what we have as our possession in Christ Jesus. If he gets it we have to give it up.

What to Do

What did the children of Israel do when they were threatened? They humbled themselves in the sight of God! James tells us that if we will humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord then the Lord will lift us up! (James 4: 8-10) Then they acknowledged they had no might against the great company coming against them. Next they admitted they didn’t know what to do. Most importantly, they all set their eyes on God! We must come to the place of understanding that we are powerless in our own might and abilities. We use the scripture a lot in Philippians 4:13 – we go around proudly proclaiming: I can do all things, but we leave of the most important part, it is through Christ that strengthens us! When we try to fight and war in our own might and abilities we will fail every time and eventually we will probably be destroyed by the enemy. Jesus fought for us and won! He has given us all power over all the power of the enemy and He said that nothing shall by any means hurt us. Jesus said that, I didn’t. We have free access to use the power He has given us, however we must remember the power is not our own might and abilities, it is His power working in us!

The Voice of God

God spoke to the people then the same way He speaks to us most of the time now, through the prophet and His Word. Be not dismayed nor afraid by reason of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but Gods, ye need not fight in this battle, set yourselves, stand ye still and see the salvation of the Lord with you. God had spoken this before to their fathers when they were at the Red Sea. (Exodus 14: 13-14) So much of the time we look at the battle the enemy has set before and we quickly and easily become dismayed. That is just what the enemy wants us to do. Looking at the battle causes us to become dismayed, then discouragement sets in and we are oftentimes overwhelmed.   Then we become fearful and we give up before we have even made a good attempt at overcoming the thing.   Remember the thing the enemy has set before is not the final authority. He deceives, he is a liar! We must go to the final authority in all things, the Word of God. We have to see what God has to say about the battle presented to us. The Holy Spirit is an excellent war chief and will direct us

                                                                                                  Attack!

Now we see the children of Israel going to find the enemy. They didn’t run from the enemy, they went to them! God told them where to find the enemy and as they were going, King Jehoshaphat stood in the midst of the people and encouraged them. Be said, Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe His prophets so shall ye prosper. Just the day before the prophet of God had spoken to the people a word from the Lord! King Jehoshaphat wanted the people to stay focused on God’s word to them. If they forgot God’s Word and began running away, or doing anything other than what God had said do, it would have ended in destruction. We all need to find out who our God is and who we are in Him. Hearing God’s Words and doing them will establish us. Jesus said; he that heareth my words and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man that built his house upon a rock and when the winds blew and the floods came the house stood strong.   Why, because the foundation was on a rock. Just as ours must be on the rock, Jesus Christ. (Matthew 7: 24-25)
Believe His prophets so shall ye prosper! God has ordained prophets and no matter how much some nay argue, there are still people ordained prophet by God! When we believe the prophets of God we will prosper. Sad to say today, as it was many times then, when the prophet speaks many shun the word spoken. We reject the word of the prophet thereby rejecting the Word of God and actually God Himself! There are examples all through the scriptures of what happens when the word of the prophet is rejected. Numbers 13 & 14 are examples. We need to do what God says, when He says, listen to His prophets!

Victory!!!

Next we see that praise began! Praise stops and stills the avenger. When they began to sing and praise God, He set ambushments against the enemy and they were smitten. The enemies of God had turned on each other. The Word of God tells us that God inhabits the praises of His people and our enemies are drawn back and perish in His presence! The enemy was destroyed by God! The spoil had been gathered and was so much that it took three days to gather it. The spoil, by the way, was what the enemies had taken in other battles. God has promised in Joel 2: 25 to restore to us the years the locusts, the cankerworm, the caterpillar, and the palmer worm had eaten!!!
They returned to Jerusalem with joy, music and praise going up to the Father. Beloved don’t stop praising God when the battle is over. When God has done something for us we need to tell about it at every opportunity, giving Him all glory and honor!
Now the fear of God was upon all the kingdoms of those countries when they heard that the Lord had fought the enemies of Israel. Psalm 40: 3 says: He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God, many shall see it and fear and shall trust in the Lord! What an amazing thought that others may come to know Jesus Christ by seeing what He has done for us!
Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee yea, I will help thee. Yea I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness----Isaiah 41: 10-13
